The Secret Orange Solution Framework has been extended to accomodate another e-commerce enabled website.

All products, content, pricing and transaction management are controlled via the same admin interface.

The Framework currently supports two Payment Gateways, namely: World Pay and PayPal. The adopted "Provider Pattern" ensures that additional Gateways can easily be added.

There are 9 sites in total running off the same code and pulling dynamic content from an Ektron CMS400.NET Content Management System. The sites are built with ASP.NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2000.
  • Thomson and Associates - (ASP.NET / SQL Server) A content managed website utilising the Secret Orange Solution Framework. The application allows Thomson staff to easily upload new properties for sale and for let. Properties are searchable using a number of criteria such as: price, location, keyword, features, bedrooms and property type.
  • Chunk - Document Sharing Portal (ASP.NET 2.0/ SQL Server / ATLAS / Indexing Service ) The purpose of this application is to provide an exciting, user friendly method of sharing information. The application is role based, offering varying levels of functionality to different users dependant on access levels. All documents which are uploaded to the system are stored on the filesystem in a folder inaccessible through HTTP. Pointers are held in the database and used to retrieve the documents when needed. The are then sent to the user over a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL/HTTPS) ensuring that information is transferred and stored in a secure manner.
  • Gilden Photonics Website (ASP.NET 2.0/ SQL Server / ITextSharp / XML / XSLT) Gilden required a website to showcase their vast selection of products and services which required the use of the Secret Orange Solution Framework to provide content management services. The solution also makes use of the ITextSharp library which is a port of iText, a free Java-Pdf library. This was used to create PDF documents on the fly for product specifications. These documents are requested by the user for download, the content and images are pulled from the database and filesystem respectively and pieced together using the ITextSharp API, then sent back to the client via the HTTP response stream.

November 2004 – 2005 - Contractor
Equator (Glasgow) – .NET Developer

Equator is a quality driven Glasgow based New Media agency. Worked on a number of interesting projects, including:

  • Haven Holidays Website - (ASP.NET / SQL Server / Tridion R5) Haven Holidays required a redesign and build of their websites in order to increase conversion rates. Tridion R5 was the main technology used behind this solution offering superior content management and blueprinting abilities for child websites.
  • ITC Classics Website - (ASP.NET / SQL Server / Flash / XML / XSLT / NUnit) A sophisticated website has been designed for this luxury holiday supplier. N-tier methodologies and solid use of OOP tamed the complexity of the site and kept the technical design clean and maintainable. The site connects to a legacy SQL Server based Property Management System and offers intelligent searches of “Full Text” catalogues. The data layer adopts an abstract factory design pattern to help assist a predicted future migration to an oracle based solution.
  • ITC Classics Advertising Campaign - (Flash MX Professional / AS 2.0) Developed an ActionScript 2.0 based shell which controlled the loading and animation of banner slides. This shell adopted the Model-View-Controller design pattern offering external configuration of animation parameters.
  • NTL Freedom - (ASP.NET / SQL Server 2000 / Web Services) General maintenance and enhancement of NTL’s Freedom broadband “sign up” process. A director based “sign up” cd-rom was also developed allowing users to create a temporary internet connection and install their new internet settings.

  • Beattie New Media – (WinForms.NET / ASP.NET / DirectX / SQL Server 2000) Microsoft .NET / Direct3D based based desktop presentation system adopting a Model-View-Controller design pattern, which "talks" to a remote web application via ASMX. COM based DirectShow and QuickTime were used to supply video capabilities. The use of declarative XML mark-up and Direct3D for the presentational systems was very similar to Microsoft’s new "Avalon" presentation sub system.
  • BT – (ASP.NET / SQL Server 2000) A variety of tools were developed for BT. One of which being a secure Intranet designed to open up a channel of communication spanning the hierarchical company structure. Involving data entry/validation, data retrieval, reporting/charting, secure login via forms authentication and IP address, database synchronisation via DTS.
  • Warwickshire County Council – (ASP.NET / SQL Server 2000) A web based interface and logic was developed to allow user to perform complex Boolean searches upon Warwickshire’s Sites and Monuments Record (SMR) database. An extensive "back office" enabled updates to site content via HTML and Flash based interfaces.
  • Shell (Classic ASP / Director / MS Access) Presentation system written in Director and Classic ASP. Currently installed in a number of Shell's offices throughout Europe. All geographically dispersed applications run from a single remote web server located in Aberdeen. Shell was immensely happy with this product and commented on the fact that the solution had succeeded where others had failed.

The admin layer provided role based security allowing different levels of functionality to be exposed to users dependant on their credentials.
  • Yorkhill Hospital – (ASP.NET / Director MX / MS Access) Developed two robust, Director based, touch screen applications for use by children aged between 5 and 14. All data was collated and available for analysis by admin via an ASP.NET "back office".
