SECRET ORANGE SOLUTION FRAMEWORK
The Secret Orange Solution Framework TM (SOSF) is a modular
web-based solution supporting a number of common Internet related demands.
The core function of the framework is to offer Content Management and ECommerce Services.
Secret Orange has worked with a number of 3rd party enterprise
systems in the past and has studied the approaches and methodologies
used from both an end user and a developers perspective.
Secret Orange has developed an In-house solution which it feels
takes the best approaches to content management. Having full
knowledge and control of the source code also enables Secret
Orange to provide bespoke functionality to ensure that the system
works for most, if not all scenarios.
BENEFITS
- Platform Independence – The CMS manages raw XML content which is not formatted or marked up for any particular media (such as HTML formatting for web browsers). The content is stored in the database as XML which can be later transformed to be presented on any type of client such as a web browser, mobile device, kiosk or a dynamically generated PDF document.
- Flexibility – The system has been abstracted to a level which enables it to cope with a number different scenarios without the need to introduce bespoke functionality.
For example, the system is currently being used to run an Estate agents website which offers all the usual services you would expect i.e. searching by price, location, features etc. The system has the flexibility to offer this type of functionality "out of the box".
- Extensibility – Although the system can already handle a number of scenarios, Secret Orange can easily upgrade or extend the system to accommodate any requirements that it doesn’t already meet.
- Schema Based – The content is stored as XML within the database. The XML is based on schemas (which would be written specifically for individual requirements, for example a page on a website would have its own schema defining what type of content is allowed to be entered). The schemas specify what type of content you would like to manage, such as images, paragraphs of text, tabular data etc. This give the content a guaranteed structure which enables other, perhaps 3rd party systems, to confidently access the content within the CMS and consume it in their own way.
- Basic Workflow – The application offers a simple workflow system which offers the ability for staff to generate content and flag it for approval. A member of staff with the appropriate privileges can then proof read the content and publish it to the live site.
- Role Based Security – Users can be set up with different roles and levels of authorisation to maximise security and control over valuable content.
- Simple Windows Style User Interface – The user interface has been designed to mimic a windows desktop application as much as possible. Allowing the user to apply skills they already have and making the interface more intuitive.
